The Federal Reserve on October 29 approved an application by The Bank of Nova Scotia — Scotiabank — to acquire Maple Financial Holdings, Inc., a Dallas bank holding company, and its subsidiary bank, MapleMark Bank of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A global bank acquiring a community bank in the region is uncommon, and it places a large, out-of-market owner over a Texas–Oklahoma franchise. For bankers in the market, how an owner of that scale staffs and integrates the business is the part worth watching, and a change of control by an out-of-market acquirer is among the events that move experienced commercial bankers.

Texas Community Bancshares agrees to buy the Bank of San Jacinto County in an all-cash deal
Texas Community Bancshares, the Mineola-based holding company for Broadstreet Bank, agreed to acquire The Banc of San Jacinto County Bancshares, the parent of the Bank of San Jacinto County in Coldspring, in an all-cash transaction valued at $9.5 million. The Bank of San Jacinto County reported about $42 million in assets as of June 30. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.
A single-county bank changing hands is a small transaction, but an acquisition is still the point at which the acquired bank's lenders and branch staff weigh whether the combined structure fits. In rural and small-metro Texas, the pool of experienced community bankers is thin, and an acquisition is the point at which reporting lines and credit authority for those relationships get set.

TexasBank's parent agrees to acquire Haskell National Bank, adding a West Texas franchise
Texas Banc Financial Corp., the holding company for Fort Worth-based TexasBank, agreed on October 16 to acquire Haskell Bancshares, the parent of Haskell National Bank. Haskell National, based in Haskell, will merge into TexasBank once the deal closes, which the companies expect by the end of 2026 or in early 2027. TexasBank reports about $2.5 billion in assets and serves markets including Fort Worth, Dallas, Brownwood, Eastland, Stephenville and Weatherford, with Abilene among the areas the combined bank will serve.
Folding a small West Texas bank into a larger franchise brings the acquired bank's lenders and branch staff into a new structure. West Texas commercial bankers who carry local relationships are a small group, and an integration is when the combined bank sets reporting lines and lending authority.

A chief executive change sets the leadership a bank's commercial lenders report through. In Northeast Texas and the Dallas exurbs where Alliance operates, experienced community-bank leaders are a small group, and a new chief executive is the kind of appointment the market tracks.
